For more than a decade now, spiral slicer is the best equipment to make delicious looking salads. If you see anywhere a spiral long shredded carrot or zucchini, it is certainly made by a spiral slicer. Since it was first invented in Japan and imported to the Americas, the good old spiral slicer is now available in various models. This article gives overview and comparison of three of the prime varieties i.e. Saladacco, Spirooli and Tsumapuro.

Saladacco, as most of you would remember, is the name of the first spiral slicer, which hit the market. It has vertical cutting orientation which means that the produce has to be held vertically while slicing. The other two varieties are relatively newer types and have a horizontal cutting orientation. Saladacco spiral slicer provides 2 different types of cuts whereas the newer generation Spirooli can cut in 3 different ways and Tsumapuro can do in 4 different cuts.

Saladacco spiral slicer has an advantage that it comes with a 3 cups sized catch container, which is not available in the other two types. It can also hold produce which are thicker in size compared to the other two slicers. However, on the other hand one can only make cuts of about 1.5 mm width with this spiral slicer. Cut widths for the other two types can be up to 3 mm.

Another point of comparison is the built in blade storage place. Among these three spiral slicers, only Spirooli has a place to safely store the blades. This is important because loosely kept blades often get lost.  Also except for the Spiral Slicer, the other two models have removable blades. Out of the three, Tsumapuro is the most expensive model with a total cost of around $100.
