Spiral Slicer

Spiral Slicer is relatively new kitchen gadget, which is rapidly gaining popularity among all food makers across the globe. Be it a small home kitchen or large kitchens of a five star hotel, various types of spiral slicers are helping cooks make not only tasteful food items but also make them look attractive.

However, most of us don’t really use the spiral slicer the way it should be. This is especially true for homemakers who usually use it to make salads for their families. As a result of the poor knowledge on how to use it, often vegetables are not sliced correctly. Many of you who have tried to make long spiral strands would have experienced that how the strands often break. And often people start blaming the slicer thinking it has some sort of manufacturing or design defect. However, this is rarely true. Using spiral slicer correctly is not an arduous task though it does require certain amount of practice.

SpiralSlicerFirst thing to keep in mind while using spiral slicer is to select the right produce. Not every vegetable works with it. For instance, soft round tomatoes will no way get sliced the way you want. Better to avoid using a spiral slicer with it. Select long hard vegetables like squash, carrots, zucchini and beet roots. Also you can’t slice frozen or canned food. They are not hard enough and have lot of loose water.

SpiralSlicerSecondly, place the produce in an upright position such as the center of the produce is touching the center of the spiral slicer nub. Then apply straight downwards pressure till the produce seats at the center and then select the mode of operation. Then cover the slicer. Once this is done rotate the handle with one hand while the other hand continues to apply pressure. This should bring you the desired results.

It is said that practice makes perfect. Same is true for spiral slicer too. Continuous practice will eventually make you learn how to use it and help you dish out perfect looking salads.
